Gerald Schaffer, M.D.
Dr. Schaffer has been a dedicated gastroenterologist in the Bay Area since 1979. After finishing his undergraduate degree at the University of Rhode Island, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, he earned his MD degree from the University of Maryland. He pursued his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology at Albany Medical Center Hospital in New York and the Medical College of Virginia, respectively. He served as a Gastroenterologist in the United States Air Force, then finally made his way to the Bay Area where he helped to establish this practice almost 30 years ago. He is adored by patients for his congenial bedside manner, and widely respected by referring doctors for his depth of experience and expertise. A natural teacher, he has an appointment as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Touro Osteopathic Medical School. He treats the full spectrum of digestive, liver, and biliary disorders, but has a particular interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. A true renaissance man, Dr. Schaffer thrives spending time outdoors - either fly-fishing, skiing, hiking, or exploring with his beloved dogs.
